He completed Basic Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon as a 74B Information Systems Operator-Analyst — later redesignated 25B Information Technology Specialist. Ahead of his class at Gordon, he was paired with a sergeant from Senegal who spoke mostly French, and helped him through the material. He received a letter of appreciation and Coin from the Chief of Signal for that work.
He was stationed at Fort Hood with the 4th Corps Materiel Management Center and arrived about two weeks before September 11, 2001. After that day the mission was no longer peacetime IT. As Battalion Information Assurance Security Officer and as a Corps Theater Automated Data Processing Service Center (CTASC) administrator, he supported Combat Service Support systems across III Corps.
The mission of the 4th CMMC was to keep Soldiers off the roads. At the time, troops were dying daily from roadside bombs while moving logistics from base to base. His work helped modernize those processes, upgrade the facility, improve the flow of supply, and cut the convoy count so Soldiers were not needlessly at risk. He deployed to Balad Air Base, Iraq, with the 13th Expeditionary Sustainment Command in 2004, and again from August 2006 to August 2007. He left active duty in September 2008 as a Sergeant.
His decorations include two Meritorious Service Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, and four Army Achievement Medals.
After hanging up the uniform he kept supporting Soldiers as a civilian on U.S. Army and DISA information-technology contracts — from supply and maintenance systems to enterprise communications and later work as a systems architect. He now serves as a Systems Architect with Quantum Sky Intelligence LLC.
In 2026 he serves on the Executive Committee of American Legion Post 38 as webmaster.
He lives in Wilson County with his wife, Alma. They have four children.
“I continue my work as a contractor and as a Legionnaire as a means of continuing my service to Veterans.”
