Today, May 10, 2026, we at American Legion Post 38 in Floresville, Texas, celebrate Mother's Day with extra gratitude and deep respect for the remarkable women who serve as military mothers and spouses in our community and across the nation.
Military life places extraordinary demands on families, and no one feels those demands more deeply than the moms and spouses who hold everything together on the home front. Deployments that last months or even years, sudden moves across the country or around the world, missed birthdays, school events, and holidays — these women navigate it all while maintaining strength, stability, and love for their children and their service member. They face the emotional weight of uncertainty, the stress of single-parenting during absences, and the quiet courage it takes to send a loved one off to serve while keeping a smile for the kids.
Here in Wilson County, many of our Post 38 families have lived this reality. Whether it was a husband or wife deployed to Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan, or serving in peacetime operations, these military moms have been the backbone of their households. They have raised children who grew up to be service members themselves, creating multi-generational legacies of duty and honor. They have volunteered in schools, churches, the Auxiliary, and youth programs while managing the unique challenges that come with military life — all while supporting the mission of those who wear the uniform.
Post 38 is proud to stand with these families. Our monthly Third-Thursday Veteran Tailgates are intentionally family-friendly, offering a relaxed place where military moms, spouses, and their children can connect with others who truly understand the journey. Through scholarships and ROTC support at local high schools, we invest directly in the next generation the very children these military moms have raised with such dedication.
The American Legion has recognized the vital role of military families since our founding in 1919. Our Auxiliary has long provided support networks, scholarships, and community programs specifically for the spouses and children of veterans. At Post 38, we carry that tradition forward every day through direct assistance, holiday meal baskets for families in need, and simply by being a welcoming place where military moms know they are seen, valued, and never alone.
On this Mother's Day, we want every military mom and spouse in Floresville and Wilson County to feel the full weight of our appreciation. Your service may not come with medals or parades, but it is every bit as essential to our nation's strength. You are the quiet heroes who keep the home fires burning, who teach your children the values of duty, honor, and country, and who stand ready to welcome your service member home — no matter how long they've been away.
